Questions

Q. What is mediation?
A. Mediation helps everyone to talk safely and respectfully about what has happened, how they are feeling and what needs to change.

Both parties meet the mediators individually and talk through what they feel needs to change and how the situation could be improved. When both parties feel comfortable and ready, they will meet together in a mediation meeting with the mediators present and talk respectfully in a safe environment about how to move forward.

Q. Where does mediation take place?
A. In a mediation, the meeting can be arranged at your own home or at our offices in Eastham, East London. We do not make any decisions for you, but we help you to work out a way forward together.

Q. What if the family member I am having arguments with does not want to come for and try mediation?
A. Mediation is not the only service we offer. We also offer one-to-one sessions for individuals who want support and want to talk through any conflict they are experiencing, regardless of if the other party to the conflict is willing to try mediation.

Q. Can you speak in Urdu?
A. Our trained mediator volunteers can speak many languages including Urdu, Bengali, Hindi and Punjabi

Q. How private is my information?
A. Whatever information you choose to tell us remains completely private. We understand it is difficult to share private problems, but we pride ourselves on our commitment to trust.

Q. Is the service really free?
A. Whether you come to our office in Eastham, London or we visit you at home, our service is free to residents of the London Borough of Newham, Barking & Dagenham, Waltham Forest, Tower Hamlets, Redbridge and Hackney.

We will take on cases from London boroughs other than these, but they this will incur a charge. Please contact us for more details.

    Q. Does MMS have a mediation policy?

    Q. Does MMS receive funding for their activities?

    Q. Does MMS offer services besides mediation?
As well as mediation we also offer coaching in communication skills. This is where two people get an opportunity to practise talking to each other about difficult issues in a non-argumentative and helpful way.

We also offer ongoing one-to-one support.
